What is Financial Aid?

Financial aid helps students and their families pay for college. This financial assistance covers educational expenses including tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, and transportation. There are several types of financial aid, including grants and scholarships, work study and loans.

Financial aid awards may include a combination of the various types of aid.

Apply Online for Financial Aid

The online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is designed with tips built-in the application for assistance.

Collect these documents to begin the application process.

Research the types of Financial Aid to decide which type of financial aid is best for you. There are different types of financial aid. Learn the different types of financial aid and the impact each type may have on the final financial aid award package.

To apply for financial aid, fill out the FAFSA Application, located on the FAFSA website.

Accept the Award

Award letters are sent out from ENMU-Portales through email and regular mail that will advise students the next steps to take. Students can check email through MyENMU-Ruidoso Portal

Verifications

Many students are chosen at random for Verification of documents. If a student is selected to provide Verification Documentation, it is very important to provide the documentation requested as soon as possible and BEFORE the deadline stated on the request or the student WILL NOT be eligible for financial aid.

Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Requirements

Student success is important along the way. Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards are measured at the end of each semester to ensure that students who are receiving federal student aid funds – Grants, Work-Study, Direct and PLUS Loans – are meeting both quantitative and qualitative requirements:

  1. Quantitative Rate – Attempted course hours should be completed
  2. Qualitative GPA – Grades earned apply to degree/certificate plan
  3. Maximum Time Frame – Degree program must be completed timely

TRiO - Educational Opportunity Centers

provide counseling and information on college admissions to qualified adults who want to enter or continue a program of postsecondary education. An important objective of the program is to counsel participants on financial aid options, including basic financial planning skills, and to assist in the application process. You must meet the following criteria: First generation college student OR low income based on federal guidelines and a desire to enter/continue a program of postsecondary education.
