Number of Cross Country Athletes nearly triples!
Seven New Mexico Students Sign to Run Cross Country at ENMU-Ruidoso

Three area high school seniors recently signed NJCAA Letters of Intent (LOI) to compete on the ENMU-Ruidoso Cross Country Men’s Team and one for the Women’s Team this fall for Head Coach Micah Bray. Gavin Castillo of Mescalero Apache High School, Jack Wisdom of Capitan High School and Simon Vasquez of Ruidoso High School, and Ashtyn Walter of Moriarty High School.
Castillo, of Mescalero, is the grandson of Lela Peralta. He excelled in school in STEM, robotics, and running. He enjoys running and carrying on his Mescalero Apache culture and traditions. He is undecided yet what to study, but looks forward to being a freshman at ENMU-Ruidoso.
Wisdom, of Ruidoso, plans to study Business Administration. His parents are Bobby and Terri Wisdom. His personal record is 5K is 17:43, and he achieved third place at the state power-lifting competition in his junior year. He is looking forward to running at the collegiate level in cross country at ENMU-Ruidoso. He enjoys enduro and dirt bike riding.
Vasquez, of Ruidoso, is undecided what to study at ENMU-Ruidoso, but looks forward to joining the Men’s Cross Country Team. His parents are Cynthia Leyva and Ezekel Leyva. He was 12th in the state for Cross Country, and his personal best 5K is 16:20, Xterra 10U is 49:18, and he was first. When not studying and running, he enjoys playing basketball.

Walter, of Stanley, plans to study Natural Sciences at ENMU-Ruidoso. Her parents are Alyssa and Sam Harris. Her personal best in the 88m was 2:30, and she made the All-District Team in Cross Country. She first competed at the Ruidoso Grindstone Race, where she placed first in the women’s division. Other than running, she enjoys wakeboarding and playing the guitar.

Jerimy of Ruidoso is the son of Jerimy Sr. and Jennifer Williams. He has run cross country and track for five years. He placed first in the state in the pole vault and the 4×8. He has won two 10th-place state cross country medals, 10 state medals in all. He competed in two half-marathons and a full marathon. He has a close-knit family, and he gets to pursue something he enjoys. It is also a great opportunity. He enjoys being a hands-on learner and being outdoors, and loves riding his mountain bike. He plans to pursue a degree in Business and Welding.
Jayvn of Bloomfield is the son of Angel Tsosie and Henderson Frank. In 2025, he won the Curtis Clement Award, placed in the state in the 4×8 and medley, and holds the school record in those events. He was top 10 in the mile, 800, and 2-mile for Bloomfield High School. “What brought me to ENMU-Ruidoso was my love for running. I prayed about running in college, and this was the only opportunity that I was presented to me. And, I truly believe it was God’s calling,” said Jayvn. He enjoys fishing, listening to music, and cooking. He has four siblings, but lost his older brother and his father in recent years. He plans to pursue a degree in Business Administration.
Roberto of Hagerman is the son of Jaun and Claidia Muniz. He has one older brother. He is coming to ENMU-Ruidoso to run cross country and to pursue a certificate in Welding. His hobbies include playing VR games and making things with his hands and his family owns race horses.
