Two New Mexico Students to Rodeo for ENMU-Ruidoso this Fall

Savannah Fresquez of Bernalillo, N.M.

Savannah Fresquez of Bernallilo is the daughter of Mike and Shannon Fresquez. Savannah graduated this spring from Mosquero Municipal Online Schools. Savannah’s family has always been in the rodeo community, whether it was in team roping, barrel racing, bull or bronc riding, it has always been in her family. “When Coach DeMott made me an offer to compete for ENMU-Ruidoso, I knew I had to take it to continue the family legacy,” she said.

Her hobbies consist of riding horses and running barrels. She has three dogs, Rosita, Odesa, and Reno. She owns two horses, SmartRoyalBoon, also known as Boon, who is her main barrel horse, and Flashing Moola, also known as Grey, is her backup horse. “I enjoy riding my horses and taking my dogs along. I love to hunt, fish, and go on trips,” she said. She plans to pursue a degree in Business and will compete in barrel racing on the ENMU-Ruidoso Women’s Rodeo Team.

Marcos Casaus of Cuba, N.M.

Marcos Casaus of Cuba, is the son of James and Olivia Casaus. He graduated from Cuba High School this year. Marcos has many accomplishments in Spanish, A-Honor Roll, Judging Forestry, Biology, FFA, 4-H, basketball, and football including; 1st High Individual in Forestry in 2024 at the FFA Tucumcari Invitational, Cuba FFA Forestry Team State Champion 2024-2025, New Mexico Cattle Growers Association Heritage Buckle award, Sandoval County 4-H Fair awards for showing a variety of animals over 10 years, NWREC 2026 Scholar Athlete Recipient, LANL Foundation Bronze Scholarship Recipient, 2026 Outstanding Culture and Language Senior Capstone Presentation, New Mexico FFA Greenhand Degree, National Honor Society and Cuba High School Athlete of the Year.

Marcos has an older brother, a sister, and a younger brother. “My parents, James and Olivia, have always supported me and helped me get to where I am today. I plan to attend ENMU-Ruidoso to build a family away from family that surrounds the rodeo lifestyle and core values of honest work,” he said. “My hobbies consist of cowboying with my blue heeler Chola as well as playing basketball, roping, and hanging out with friends. I love old country music and music from northern New Mexico,” he said. Marcos plans to pursue a degree in Agriculture and Animal Science and will compete in team roping as a heeler on the ENMU-Ruidoso Men’s Rodeo Team.
