Two ENMU-Ruidoso students, Angelica Pizarro and Abril Pelcastre, both of Ruidoso Downs, were selected to participate in the University of New Mexico (UNM) Clinical and Translational Research Experience Program (CT-REx) this summer. This dynamic summer career-preparation program prepares students for careers in research.
The CT-REx program offers skill-based training, mentorship, and hands-on learning for those interested in a career as a clinical research professional (CRP). This role is vital in research and includes positions such as research coordinators and data management specialists. The program is specifically designed for freshmen and sophomore college students.
CT-REx is an eight-week program from June 1 to July 24. The students will receive a stipend of up to $5,000, one college course credit, and campus housing. The students will explore multiple research careers, work alongside skilled research professionals, and learn foundational research skills. The students will receive training in lab techniques, interacting with research participants, data collection, entry, and reporting, and communicating research results to others. This program is sponsored by UNM Health Science, the University of Arizona Health, Banner Health, and the Southwest Center for Advancing Clinical and Translational Innovation.
