Largest Class to Date—Graduates Announced
ENMU-Ruidoso Branch Community College hosted the 21st Annual Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, May 7, at 6 p.m. at the Inn of the Mountain Gods, Mescalero.
The event featured four ENMU-Ruidoso student speakers: Edith Morgan and Kaylyn Chino, both of Mescalero; and Jessi Dentler and Robert Ruiz, both of Ruidoso.
The four President’s Award Recipients were recognized for Excellence in Teaching, Shelly Elfelt, Faculty Member and Science and Math Department Chair; Excellence in Adjunct Teaching, Hank Hargis, Director of Admissions and Part-time Instructor; Distinguished Service award, Gray Mowery, Director of Career and Technical Education; and Friend of the College award recipient, Harlan Vincent, New Mexico Representative of the 56th District, Lincoln and Otero counties, and an ENMU-Ruidoso alumni.
Two hundred and eighty-nine diplomas, certificates and degrees were awarded to students from ENMU-Ruidoso Branch Community College, some students received multiple awards. This is the largest number of students to graduate and degrees to be awarded to date in ENMU-Ruidoso’s history.
Twenty-four students received their diploma for the New Mexico High School Equivalency (HSE); 180 graduated with a Certificate of Completion in Child Development, Core Curriculum, Cyber Defense Infrastructure Support Specialist, HVAC Technician, Pre-Nursing, Welding Technology and Wildland Fire Science; 43 students graduated with a Certificate of Occupational Training in Culinary Arts Fundamentals, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Nursing Assistant, and Phlebotomy; 9 graduated with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Business Administration, Information Systems Cybersecurity and Wildland Fire Science; 31 with an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in Business Administration, Early Childhood Education, General Studies, Psychology, Secondary Education and University Studies; and 2 graduated with an Associate of Science (AS) degree in Natural Science;
Additionally, about 14 graduates were presented to receive their Bachelor’s degree from ENMU Portales in Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS); Business Administration (BA), Science and University Studies; and for a Master’s of Arts (MA) degree in Counseling and a Master’s degree of Education (MEd) for School Counseling.
The processional was led by Dr. Karen Massey, Chief Business Officer, who carried the Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) mace. Mescalero Princess Kaiyalora Muniz gave the Mescalero Apache blessing. ENMU-Ruidoso Branch Community College President Ryan Trosper welcomed the audience and made introductions. The Mescalero Apache Veterans Department presented the colors. The National Anthem was sung by the ENMU-Ruidoso Community Choir. The invocation was given by Anthony Geraci, Pastor of the Calvary Chapel. Mr. Frizzell Frizzell, Jr., ENMU-Ruidoso Community College Board Member and COO of the Inn of the Mountain Gods, gave a welcome on behalf of the Mescalero Apache Tribe, as did Mescalero Tribal Council Interim President Tanis Torres. ENMU System Chancellor and President Dr. James Johnston conferred the degrees and certificates. Vice President of Student Learning and Success, Coda Omness, presented the students with their diplomas, certificates, and degrees. Johnston presented the ENMU Portales graduates with their bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
