ENMU-Ruidoso’s 22-member Community Choir will perform at the following locations in the next few weeks.
- Tuesday, May 2, 4 p.m. – Performance at Good Life Center, 108 Vision Dr.
- Thursday, May 4, 6 p.m. – Student Creativity Showcase, ENMU-Ruidoso, 709 Mechem Dr.
- Sunday, May 7, 3 p.m. – Spring Concert “Celebrate Life,” Community Methodist Church, 220 Junction Rd., tickets available at the door $10.
- Thursday, May 11, 6 p.m. – ENMU-Ruidoso Commencement Ceremony, Inn of the Mountain Gods, 287 Carrizo Canyon Road Mescalero.
The Community Develop Office of ENMU-Ruidoso has offered the Community Choir course during the fall and spring semesters for many years with the exception of when it was stopped due to COVID-19 the last couple of years. Melba Valdez, Susan Finch and Dr. Clara Farah were involved in it for years and approached the College about reviving it last fall. It is a 16-week course that meets on Monday evenings at 5 p.m. at the College. It will be offered again in the fall semester that begins Aug. 22.
Suzanne Hughes of Alto is the new ENMU-Ruidoso Community Choir director. Hughes is an experienced choir director in N.M. and Texas public schools with over 30 years of experience. She is a Wayland Baptist University graduate with a piano major and a minor in voice and music education. She has taught all school levels, with her favorite being middle school. In addition to teaching, Hughes has also been department chair, region chair, competition judge, and “Teacher of the Year.” During her years as a choir director, her choirs have earned numerous choir sweepstakes awards with multiple “Best in Festival” and “Best in Class” awards. Hughes also has many years of experience as a church choir director in N.M. and Texas. She has led numerous festival events and is strongly interested in community service.
