A co-requisite for all ENMU-Ruidoso and dual credit Cybersecurity students is the IS254 NCL comperition.

The Cyber Power Rankings were created by Cyber Skyline in partnership with the National Cyber League (NCL). Every year, over 10,000 students from more than 500 colleges & universities and 100 high schools across the US participate in the NCL competitions. These rankings represent the ability of students from these schools to perform real-world cybersecurity tasks on the Cyber Skyline platform. Students had to identify hackers from forensic data, pentest & audit vulnerable websites, recover from ransomware attacks, and more. Schools are ranked based on their top team performance, their top student’s individual performance, and the aggregate individual performance of their students.

Here are the ENMU-Ruidoso and Mescalero High School results for Fall 2023:

POWER RANKING:

ENMU-Ruidoso – National ranking: 82; Western US ranking: 29
Mescalero Apache School – National ranking: 46

Juan GonzalezJuan Gonzalez

I have been living in El Paso since June 2000, though I am originally from Southern California. Most people know El Paso for its close relationship with Fort Bliss Army Base. It was a career move that originally brought me to El Paso, and I have been here ever since.

My passion for Computer Science spans a couple of decades of work in the IT field, but I officially got my start in 1999 through a software company. Since then, I have been fortunate to work for the DoD, Homeland Security, the City of El Paso, and even NASA. Today, I am a Cybersecurity Engineer for a Government contracting company, and teach online cybersecurity courses for ENMU-Ruidoso.

As my career in IT developed, so did my formal education and certifications. Beginning with an A+ certification, then progressing all the way through a Masters in Digital Forensics, my love for computers continues to grow. I can’t emphasize enough how important a formal Computer Science education has been in developing my computer knowledge. Knowing how to do something is as important as knowing why it’s done that way.

When work and school is not on the menu, I love spending time with my family. I have two promising young boys and a very wonderful and supportive wife. They are my pride and joy. I love taking them on trips to California and almost have them convinced that we should move out there. Ha! Wishful thinking on my part; they are 100-percent family grounded in Texas!

Jennifer Crispin-Martinson Jennifer Martinson

Jennifer has been a Software Engineer for 15 years and has taught computer courses for ENMU-Ruidoso since 2012. She has built a successful software company over that time frame, and is now moving to start a new company! She loves technology and loves to help others find the same type of passion!

As a self-proclaimed adrenaline junkie, Jennifer and her husband Chase enjoy a myriad of gravity/board sports. Skiing and snowboarding is a top winter priority, while surfing/kiteboarding/skateboarding/foilboarding all provide the summertime entertainment.

Here’s what others are saying …

“I chose the ENMU Ruidoso Cybersecurity program because as a remote student, this program provided me with a robust knowledge base that I could access from home. I have always been interested in computers, and the curriculum of this program expanded my knowledge base significantly. When it was time for me to find a job while I was in school, I listed the courses I completed and the ones I was currently enrolled in. When I was called into a company for an interview and knowing that IT is a competitive field, I asked my interviewer why he chose my resume. He said that it was due to my interest in security even before I graduated. The ENMU program has played an integral role in getting me started in the information security field.” — Johnnie Wright, ENMU-Ruidoso Cybersecurity student

“In searching for the right cybersecurity education, I wanted to find a program that would allow me to hit the ground running with the real world skills and cutting edge expertise I needed to function within the growing information security community. I found that in the ENMU-Ruidoso Cybersecurity Center for Academic Excellence (CAE-2Y). This program is truly and expertly designed with our national security in mind. The staff, under the direction of Professor Stephen Miller, personally guides each step of a student’s Cybersecurity education providing them rich insight on the policies, practices and tools needed to secure our corporate and national assets. It goes far beyond my expectations. I simply cannot believe the things I have learned under their tutelage.” — Matthew Klipstine, ENMU-Ruidoso Cybersecurity student

“ENMU-Ruidoso’s cybersecurity program gave me the foundation of knowledge needed to succeed in this industry. I had opportunities to use their labs to learn and practice my skills, work with peers on difficult technical challenges and be introduced to new concepts that set me up to have a successful career. Not only that, but it was extremely affordable, and Stephen Miller and his team helped me with everything from administrative burdens to coaching our team in a CTF event! I would recommend anyone interested in cybersecurity to learn more!” — Alex McGlothlin, ENMU-Ruidoso alumni, State Farm Insurance, Dallas, TX
